Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada has been suspended for 13 matches after assaulting a Huesca player, Jorge Pulido, during a tense Spanish second division derby. The sanction, announced on 29 April 2026, follows a violent incident that marred the end of the match.
Andrada had already been sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time at the end of Sunday's game. However, the situation escalated when the Argentine sprinted towards Huesca captain Jorge Pulido and punched him in the face, sparking a mass brawl on the pitch.
This altercation resulted in the additional dismissals of Huesca keeper Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza's Dani Tasende. The Spanish football federation (RFEF) handed Andrada a 12-game suspension for the punch, in addition to the automatic one-match ban for his initial red card, totaling 13 games.
The RFEF's report described how Andrada "ran and jumped" towards Pulido "violently and aggressively" after being sent off, striking him with "excessive force." The federation justified the "imposition of the maximum sanction of a 12-match suspension" given the circumstances.
Following the incident, 35-year-old Esteban Andrada expressed his regret: "The truth is I'm very, very sorry for what happened. It's not a good image for the club, for the fans, and especially not for a professional like myself. So, I'm very sorry." He also apologized directly to Jorge Pulido, admitting he lost focus.
Real Zaragoza, who remain in the relegation zone alongside Huesca following the 1-0 loss, released a statement condemning "strongly what happened" and promising to "take the appropriate disciplinary measures." Andrada and the club will also face additional financial penalties.
